Implementing Comprehensive Retail Technology Across Distribution Centers and Retail Storefronts
CUSTOMER SINCE: 2010
DESCRIPTION: Global Fashion & Hygiene Retailer
Today’s shoppers expect a seamless customer experience and the ability to switch between online and in-store purchasing. Omnichannel buying experiences are more common than ever, and consumers look for retailers they can trust to deliver time and time again.
A global retailer that specializes in lingerie, personal care and beauty products, apparel and accessories understands the role technology plays in building brand loyalty. The company operates more than 3,000 specialty stores in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and China. Their products are also sold in more than 800 franchised locations worldwide and through an extensive e-commerce platform.
Between the company’s retail locations, eight distribution centers and variable staff during seasonal peaks, they need cost effective solutions to remain competitive. With TRG’s insight and support, the retailer was able to tackle several initiatives without having to rely on multiple vendors, expand or overextend their internal team.

Distribution Center Efficiency
Distribution centers are under increased pressure to ensure efficiency in order processing. The Amazon Effect continues to recalibrate customer expectations, with most consumers now expecting frictionless online shopping and fast delivery. This accelerated pace doesn’t allow for downtime due to broken equipment, so the customer approached TRG to develop a solution for instant on-site repairs.
On-Site Repair Services for Distribution Centers
This retailer originally became a customer in 2010 when they sought a new partner for faster and more efficient device repairs. They experienced a 50% increase in temporary and seasonal employees who are known for being harsh on equipment—repairs are needed three to four times a week during peak season. Given the frequency of repairs, the customer couldn’t wait for delays caused by shipping.
TRG developed an innovative solution by creating on-site repair facilities at their eight distribution centers, providing technicians to complete repairs on location. This program ultimately saves the customer valuable time and helps maximize efficiency.
Mobile Handheld Computers Provide Accuracy and Efficiency
Distribution centers across the country continue to upgrade their mobile devices and migrate from Windows to Android. Upgrading to higher functioning devices and powerfully secure enterprise-grade OS results in greater speed, accuracy, communication and efficiency.
When this retailer wanted to begin the switch from Windows to Android, they wanted to make order fulfillment quicker, easier and more efficient. In particular, e-commerce orders required streamlined scanning, loading and printing of shipping labels. Mobility was also a priority, both in the distribution center and for their delivery drivers.
TRG advised them to focus on Zebra devices because they are incredibly rugged. The customer settled on the MC9100 thanks to its drop rating and processing power to support next generation mobile applications. The customer later incorporated the MC9200 and the MC9300, later generations of the same mobile device. With Zebra’s complete line of rugged devices, we were able to outfit the customer with handheld mobile computers, tablet computers and vehicle truck mounts that fit the needs of each user.
Mobile Retail Technology Offers Speed and Convenience
Customers today expect a technology-enhanced shopping experience. Whether the technology helps customers feel safer in-store or creates a more immersive experience, it’s in every retailer’s best interest to invest in upgrades to stay competitive in their market.
In-Store Employee Communications
The global pandemic forced retailers to rethink in-store communications, with companies moving away from daily stand-ups or huddles. Following a 30-day shutdown, this customer reopened with an emphasis on physical distancing and improved mobile technology. Clear communication among employees is still necessary, so they turned to TRG to outfit all retail stores with two-way radios.
Dressing Room Communications
TRG also helped the customer develop a unique solution to make the in-store shopping experience safer and more efficient. Dressing rooms feature an interactive fitting room system to assist with communications. Customers can request another size or color by notifying store associates from within the fitting room. These systems integrate with the two-way radios, helping improve customer satisfaction and avoid missed sales.
Convenient Payment Solutions
Mobile payment terminals are more important than ever due to growing consumer expectations for contactless payment options. To meet the demand for efficiency, speed and convenience, this retailer opted for payment terminals and iPad solutions that can also be used for checking out customers on the floor.
MDM Solutions for Retail
Mobile devices are reshaping the retail industry to support customer engagement, employee productivity and profitability. Enterprise devices require management throughout the entire lifecycle – from procurement to retirement. This customer is currently responsible for their MDM platform, but they plan to partner with TRGto experience the full benefits of an MDM platform. With a trusted support team on their bench, they can avoid the hassle of hiring or training additional staff while still meeting the demands of a competitive industry.
