The global leader of automotive protective systems—airbags, seatbelts, steering wheels and more—goes to the extreme to ensure their life-saving products are safe and reliable. From safety testing to product manufacturing and shipment, the company’s primary goal is to create fool-proof products and get them to their customers on time.

The harsh environments needed to create these products, however, cause wear and tear on the equipment that supports manufacturing and testing, bogging down operations and requiring costly repairs. If these challenges weren’t enough, the company is continually scaling in footprint and complexity and depends on functional devices to uphold their high standards and workflow continuity.

To combat these challenges, the company first partnered with a hardware and device supplier to procure new industrial printers. Yet, they later discovered that this partner’s capabilities were limited—providing only new hardware and not offering the services required to keep a wide variety of technology up and running to support their global organization.

The company soon turned to TRG, who could offer a wide variety of both new and refurbished equipment—scanners, mobile computers, industrial printers and other rugged devices—and provide a comprehensive suite of lifecycle management services to seamlessly maintain the device fleet. Industrial Thermal Printers for Critical Operations

Industrial tabletop printers are a staple of this company’s operations, helping maintain efficiency during critical workflows. This equipment provides the customer with high-quality barcode text, RFID encoding, tags, packing slips and compliance labeling—key components of their manufacturing and testing processes.
 
The customer chose to invest in SATO CL4NX and CL4NX-Plus industrial thermal printers because of their proven durability and reliability. In addition to ease of use and configurability, they also appreciated, the equipment’s compatibility with Application Enabled Printing (AEP)—offering advanced intelligence to improve labeling productivity and reliability while also reducing costs. With AEP Works software, users can quickly and easily design simple label formats using a WYSIWYG GUI interface or leverage a full-fledged application for data manipulation to streamline the label printing process.

Industrial Printer Support to Keep Operations Moving

Industrial Printer Repairs Within Twenty-Four Hours

TRG’s support begins with procurement, shipping SATO printers to the customer’s facilities across the United States and Mexico. However, operating in harsh environments inevitably requires support and repairs. Given the size of this equipment, printer support often occurs onsite. TRG is backed by a reliable network of thousands of technicians located throughout the United States and Canada, so when support is needed we can be onsite within twenty-four hours.
 
All service requests are managed through TRG’s ServiceHub platform, an online asset management platform that provides real-time equipment analytics on devices regardless of OEM. ServiceHub enables the customer to seamlessly place and track orders, view repair tickets and run reports, ultimately improving visibility and efficiency.

Procurement, Migration Support & More

Like all technology, printers have a limited life cycle. When the customer needed to upgrade end of life equipment, TRG helped them to migrate to the next generation, leveraging flexible retirement programs, including buybacks that helped offset the cost of the new hardware.

Supporting the Customer Beyond Printer Repairs

Industrial printers are just one piece of this puzzle. Their technology fleet contains an array of scanners, mobile computers and other rugged devices. TRG helps the customer extend the life of this equipment  by actively repairing devices and supplying refurbishing units. For new equipment still covered under OEM warranty, TRG offers comprehensive managed services for a broad range of device types and OEMs. As existing devices are repaired or new devices are added to the fleet, TRG ensures all are configured correctly, set according to the golden image that TRG helped the customer establish and leveraging the terminal emulation and mobile device management platforms that power the devices.
 
And leveraging an extensive network of end users and business partners, TRG helps the customer find value in their obsolete equipment-recouping some of their original investment and offsetting the cost of new upgrades.
 
Today, TRG continues to support this customer’s growth and evolution. One such project involves evaluating RFID solutions for faster and more accurate inventory management, as well as exploring explosion proof devices for their airbag testing operations. Regardless of the challenge, TRG will stand by this customer’s side to identify and implement a solution to meet their objectives and requirements.
