This business products supplier has been providing its customers with janitorial sanitation products, business technology solutions, office supplies and other products for more than 170 years. In total, the company carries almost 100,000 products from more than 1,500 brands.
Our relationship began in 2017, when they were evaluating partners to manage their distribution center hardware program - a fleet with over 2,500 devices across their nearly 40 distribution centers across the United States and the Caribbean. This included printers, ring scanners and other wearable devices and handheld scanners to ensure their employees had the devices they needed to work quickly and efficiently.
The company also needed assistance with distribution center hardware repair, spares pool management and device replacement. With so many locations and products moving through their network on a daily basis, deployment support was needed to ensure the equipment could be used as quickly as possible .
Our first step with the company was a proof of concept. We began providing new and refurbished hardware, repair services and spares pool management to one of its distribution centers. Over the next year and a half, the company gradually transitioned each of their facilities to TRG for hardware support, and today, we manage all distribution center hardware, repair services and spares pool management — around 2,800 devices in total along with a spares pool of approximately 150 units.
Whenever new hardware is needed, our team procures the devices, handles all staging/kitting/deployment and manages device replacement as needed. For units that are out-of-warranty or covered under our in-warranty repair authorizations, we perform the repair ourselves. If the item is in-warranty or we are not authorized, we manage the logistics to and from the OEM. We also provide spares pool management – maintaining and managing a pool of ready-to-ship devices from our state-of-the-art facilities.
To effectively manage these devices, the company uses a mobile device management (MDM) platform, and our team provides ongoing support to ensure the system is being leveraged effectively, and the company’s internal team can focus on more strategic initiatives.
Our partnership with the customer was recently proven in an unfortunate incident that occurred at one of the company’s distribution centers. The facility experienced a massive fire, which also damaged the company’s adjacent headquarters. Thankfully, no one was injured. To ensure operations continued and it could maintain service levels for its customers, the company asked TRG to repackage their device program.
Our team rose to the challenge and provided the company with the distribution center hardware it needed on short notice. The company was able to open a new facility several months later, but in the interim, was able to continue operating with minimal interruption, in part due to the equipment that was delivered.
More recently, the company has expanded its footprint to Chicago with the opening of a new distribution center. Our wireless team conducted a site survey and other onsite services to ensure employees would have the connectivity they needed to maintain optimal productivity.
Today, the company has peace of mind knowing that its distribution center hardware needs are being handled seamlessly and efficiently. Whenever new devices or services are needed, the team at TRG has proven they can deliver.
