If you’re in the warehousing and manufacturing sector, you know that time is money. So did this national online retailer and distributor of pet food.
In their Generation 2 automated distribution centers their robots (yeah, robots) are moving containers to pickers to increase ROI and process orders quickly and accurately. This area in the DC is known as “AutoStore”, a mix of automation and robotics to expedite commonly ordered SKUs.
In this area, the robots are delivering pallets of commonly ordered products to the pick stations. Whether it was a small chew toy or large box of pet food, the pickers at the automated stations scan and pack the orders to get them out to customers as fast as possible.
The customer had implemented standard Zebra barcode scanners for the automated packing stations because they don't need any kind of mobile computer or an operating system. But this led to delays as it was difficult to maneuver with a scanner in one of the picker’s hands and a heavy box in the other. The retailer could not afford wasted downtime and resources.
The customer needed a scanner that wouldn’t break the bank, give them the ability to meet customer demands and produce accurate data.
The online retailer thought fixed (mount) industrial scanners would solve their problems by providing a larger read range and more accurate scanning results. The customer knew there were high-end tools on the market but due to budget constraints, they were out of their reach. They had tried some lower cost options and those didn’t have the read range and scanning accuracy capabilities that were needed.
If the customer is going to modernize to new technology, they want confidence that endpoints would yield the results needed, while still being relatively cost effective.
TRG provided a solution that eased their worries.
This online retailer was at a crossroads and worked with TRG to solve their problem.
With our strong network of partners in the industrial automation space, we were able to pair them with Zebra's fixed industrial scanners, specifically the FS40.
TRG had the endpoints in mind and the mission set in motion. Next up: deployments.
TRG worked with one of Zebra's Machine Vision and Industrial Scanning Partners, Automation Distribution Inc. (ADI), to assist in the project. ADI is an automation solutions provider and TRG was proud to partner with them for this project. We were able to ensure all devices were staged, kitted and configured to meet the customers' needs at a very minimal charge.
From volume level to device casing, we made sure to check every box and keep the customer satisfied. It was a top-notch execution.
With help from the ADI team, these fixed industrial scanners were deployed and implemented in their warehouse as requested, no problem. ADI and TRG also conducted on-site training to make sure their team was comfortable with the endpoints in-hand. We developed a custom enclosure and buzzer system that would allow the customer to best use the fixed scanners to complete their daily duties. Partnering with ADI allowed TRG to simplify the customers’ integration of their new Zebra fixed scanners.
TRG ensured the customer could roll out these endpoints without letting a heavy price tag stand in their way. We cared about customer satisfaction, nothing else.
